About Us

The WHO Collaborating Centre, established in 2002 at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, is a multidisciplinary unit working with the goals of reducing the burden of injury and violence in India and other Low and Middle-income Countries with multipronged strategies and evidence-based approaches.

The centre strongly focuses on intersectoral approaches to promote, implement and integrate injury prevention countermeasures in India and other Low and Middle-Income countries. Our focus of work has been on Road Traffic Injuries (RTIs), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Suicides, violence and Workplace injuries.

Our major emphasis has been to develop prevention programs with an equal emphasis on organization and delivery of trauma care services and rehabilitation. Activities of the centre include epidemiological and public health research,  capacity strengthening and human resource development, programme development and implementation, influencing public health and injury prevention policies and programmes, advocacy through continuous engagement with stakeholders along with monitoring and evaluation. We work closely with a number of national and international organizations, local communities and other partners to promote and strengthen injury prevention and safety promotion.
