Vision

To be a national leader in the area of Psychopharmacology and Neurotoxicology and to evolve state-of-the-art approaches to diagnostic services, community programmes, and fundamental and translational research.

Mission

To establish expertise in the field of Psychopharmacology and Neurotoxicology 

To establish and provide the highest standards in diagnostic facilities in Toxicology

To contribute to capacity building by providing training in fundamental and translational research in Psychopharmacology and Neurotoxicology

To develop and strengthen inter-disciplinary, inter-institutional and international collaboration to foster basic and clinical research in Psychopharmacology and Neurotoxicology

Objectives

Psychopharmacology

To conduct fundamental and translational research in Psychopharmacology

To contribute to manpower development and research training in the field of Psychopharmacology

The present thrust is on clinical research rather than on basic science research.

Neurotoxicology

To establish diagnostic facility for toxicants in urine, blood, and tissue samples

To quantitate the accumulation of pesticides, metals, and other neurotoxins in the general population to assess the role of environmental toxins 

To test industrial and environmental toxins/pesticides in workers and in patients attending NIMHANS OPD with suspected exposure to toxic compounds

To conduct fundamental research that complements the clinical research and diagnostics in neurotoxicology relevant to Karnataka and India

To develop novel neuroprotective strategies and other therapeutic technologies for neurotoxicological and neurodegenerative conditions

To conduct public out-reach programmes and epidemiological analysis of neurotoxicology relevant to Karnataka and India

To contribute to manpower development and research training in the field of neurotoxicology

To serve as a referral centre for clinical toxicology studies
