Academics/ courses in Psychiatric Rehabilitation
Trainees from Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatric social work and nursing from different parts of the country are posted for training in psychiatric rehabilitation at our centre.
From academic Year 2014-15, the following courses were started
a.Fellowship course in psychiatric rehabilitation [2 Medical and 2 non-medical seats (1 sponsored in each)] b.PhD in Mental Health rehabilitation (2 Institute stipendiary and 2 sponsored seats)
Post-Graduate Training and Psychiatric Rehabilitation
Trainees from all behavioural sciences departments in NIMHANS are posted. They are allotted number of patients to take care of, under close supervision of the senior resident and consultants. They are trained in rehabilitation interventions in
- Multidisciplinary rounds for day- boarders and
- Multidisciplinary SERWICE OPD
- Multidisciplinary rounds for inpatient referrals.
In addition, there are 2 academic programmes for the trainees
- Role plays on every Thursday from 9:15 AM to 10 AM: in this trainees are asked to enact some common rehab scenarios and structured feedback is given by the audience to improve the performance.
- Seminar/ journal club/video club/ debates on Saturdays from 9:15 -10:15 AM
Trainees posted with us are taken for field visits to other NGOs working in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation in order to learn how they train, place and help psychiatric patients.

Students in Psychiatry, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatric social work and Nursing from different parts of the country are posted for orientation to Psychiatric Rehabilitation, for periods ranging from a few days up to a month.
The Road to Recovery (R2R)
The Road to Recovery (R2R) is a part of the NIMHANS Virtual Knowledge Network, and takes place monthly (every 4th Friday). It is an online training programme, which is based on a combination of case-based discussions and a short didactic. The participants for this programme would range from students and faculty in institutes to any mental health professional interested in rehabilitation. It works on the ZOOM video conferencing platform, and is part of the ECHO platform. Click the link provided below for free registration:
