Conferences, Seminars and Workshops:
The department has hosted the 4th Annual Conference of Indian Society for Medical Statistics (ISMS) in the year 1986 and a Joint-Conference of The Indian Society for Medical Statistics and International Biometric Society – Indian Region (IBS-IR) in the year 1999. Both the conferences were well attended by delegates from all over India. The proceedings of the two conferences were also brought out.
In the year 2002, the department organized a two-days seminar on Applications of Survival Analysis which was attended by more than 60 participants.
From the year 2007 the department has been regularly organizing workshops on Statistical Methodology for Medical and Behavioural researchers. So far more than 20 such workshops have been organized in which statistical software, such as SPSS and R software is introduced along with practical applications with the help of computers. These programme has been highly successful in that every workshop has more than 50 registrations. These are a self- sustaining programme and the department doesn’t receive any monetary support from outside agencies or the institute.
These workshops are conducted every year during the month of July to October. The details are as follows;
- Workshop on statistical methods in medical research and introduction to SPSS” – during second week of July.
- Refresher course on statistical methods for behavioural research – during third week of August.
- Statistical data analysis using R software – during September-October.
