The department of Neuromicrobiology is dedicated to provide easily accessible and state of the art services in diagnostics. The laboratory provides a gamut of advanced and novel diagnostic tests. We receive 7500 CSF ,!50 brain abscess,and 10,000 other samples. The diagnostic equipments are upgraded according to the advancement in technology which would further aid in timely diagnosis.
Emergency Neuromicrobiology laboratory located in the first floor of Emergency block,provides 24/7 services. CSF Brain abscess pus examination and sepsis work up is carried out stat.Aetiological diagnosis of acute meningitis,chronic meningitis brain abscess and sepsis is undertaken and communicated online to the clinicians to initiate appropriate treatment
Main Neuromicrobiology laboratory is located in the first floor, Academic block. Wide range of tests in serology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, immunology, molecular biology and bacteriology are carried out here to diagnose cater to the needs of patients. Battery of tests are performed to diagnose bacteriological infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae,Haemophilus influenzae,Neisseria meningitides, enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas etc., Neurotuberculosis, Neurobrucellosis, Neuroleptospirosis, Neurotoxoplasmosis, Cryptococcal infections and other fungal infections of the central nervous system are diagnosed by applying different diagnostic modalities like isolation of the organism, antibody detection, antigen detection, PCR.
Neuroimmunology laboratory undertakes the diagnosis of Gullian Barry Syndrome, Multiple Schlerosis ,Myasthenia Gravis etc.
Hospital Infection Surveillance System This section is dedicated to infection control activities in the hospital. Regular audits on BMW management and hand hygiene are conducted. Antimicrobial stewardship activities and infection control practices are monitored with electronic surveillance systems. Awareness programmes and training sessions are conducted regularly on infection control practices. Consultation for preventive measures for community MRSA cases are provided. Various policies are developed by the team which would facilitate effective infection control practices.
