Services

The services provided here include counseling and support for issues like depression, anxiety, anger outbursts, lack of sleep; marital counseling for couples, support for alcohol/nicotine/drug de-addiction, services for technology addiction, family counseling, support for parents of children with behavioural disturbances, support and guidance for children with behavioural/emotional issues, stress and lifestyle management, personal exploration and growth, support and guidance for any mental health and wellbeing related concerns. Individual counseling, couple counseling, family counseling, support groups etc are provided. We also provide mental health information through telephone, email, and “Knowledge Nook“.

The above services are available from 9:30am to 4:30 pm on all days except second Saturdays of every month, Sundays, and general holidays. Appointments can be taken by making a telephone call, dropping in, or through email within the working hours of the Centre.

Clinical services are provided in formats like individual counseling, couple counseling, family counseling and group counseling from Monday to Saturday by the expert teams from NIMHANS according to a given schedule. Screening charges are Rs 20/- and counseling charges Rs 100/- per session.

Consultation Liason Psychiatry

Caters to: Individuals facing mild depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, pain disorders, behavioral issues, people with chronic illnesses who need psychological support, sleep problems etc.

Purpose:

  • To actively involve specialty hospitals in the area.
  • To administer brief psychiatric evaluation
  • To provide pharmacological support
  • To Liason with other services for therapy/counselling
  • The services would include working with Physicians, General Practitioners (GP) to discuss the interface between Psychiatry and Medicine.
  • It would also include inputs for GPs and specific time during which they could discuss cases as well as referrals from adjoining centres.

Marital Enrichment Services : 

Caters to: This would apply to couples with mild problems or those who want to enrich their relationship.

Purpose: To assist the couples to develop a wider and deeper understanding of each other and facilitate more effective communication patterns between the two.

What Is FLOURISH?

It is a weekly clinic that aims at providing one to one consultation to individuals for maintaining and enhancing their wellbeing.

What Is Well Being?

Well being is not just about ‘feeling good’, but also about high level of psychological functioning.

I Do Not Think I Have Any Mental Illness. Why Bother About Wellbeing?

Well being is not just relevant for people with a diagnosis of mental illness. But this is also about moving oneself from current (perhaps an average) level of functioning to a higher level. Working towards maintaining/enhancing well being matters ­ because it can not only improve our current functioning, but can also make us more resilient to handle stressful situations in future. It is similar to working towards physical fitness, that aims at minimizing risks for physical problems and enhancing one’s physical health.

Two kinds of services are offered at FLOURISH:

  1. At Flourish Clinic, clients can learn more about themselves and their mental health status and well being, obtain feedback about their psychological strengths as a person as well as the areas that require attention, through undergoing psychological assessment

WELLNESS CHECK SERVICE

  1. At Flourish Clinic, clients can chose to discuss their concerns and issues regarding their well being and opt for individualized sessions aimed at enhancing wellbeing and functioning.

Psychological care clinic

Caters to: The Psychological Care Clinic caters to the needs of those individuals who wish to seek professional help from clinical psychologists for dealing with various psychological issues and problems.

Purpose: The Psychological Care Clinic offers brief psychological counseling and therapies. The number of sessions for any given client typically ranges between 3 and 6. A rapid evaluation process in the first session ensures that the clients are helped in obtaining the kind of intervention that is best suited for them. If longerterm intervention / several sessions/ specialized services are required; the clients are referred to appropriate services for the same.

Trauma Recovery Clinic

Caters to:

  • Victims/witnesses of Violence/traumatic events (child sexual abuse, family violence, sexual assault, etc)
  • Psychological trauma due to loss, bereavement etc
  • Individuals with trauma due to acquired disability, self harm ideation/behavior etc

Purpose:

  • To help individuals come to terms with the trauma and reclaim their lives by moving ahead
  • To provide guidance and support to individuals who are experiencing trauma
  • To reduce psychological/emotional consequences(fear, depression, guilt and shame) associated with the trauma
  • To enhance self-esteem, improve coping & problem-solving skills and relationship skills
  • To teach individuals to engage in self-care practices to help manage the effects of trauma
  • To enable individuals to build a warm supportive network of caring people and reduce social isolation

SHUT (Services for healthy Use of Technology) Clinic

Caters to: Those who are into the habitual pattern of excessive use of technology (Cellphone, internet, televisionetc) to the extent of impairment in other areas of functioning

Purpose:

  • Screening the over or problematic usage of technology
  • Help the individual to see it as a problem
  • Set goals for uses of technology
  • Replace technology usage with healthy activities
  • Build coping skills
  • Strengthen support network.

Schedule: On 1st and 4th Saturdays of every month from 2:00pm to 4:30pm

ASARE (Parents Support Group) :

The groups are conducted for parents of children and adolescents with learning and behavioural difficulties. v They are offered information about nature and causes of difficulties and possible ways of dealing with these problems. v The objective of the group session is to enable parents to understand and deal effectively with the problems.

Schedule: On Thrusdays from 11:00am to 1:00pm

Stress and lifestyle clinic

Who can attend and avail services:
People from all walks of life can attend the stress and lifestyle clinic. The services offered include stress management, coping skills and problem solving training, strategies to handle interpersonal or relationship concerns, work or academic stress, effects of stress such as anxiety, anger and depression. The services can also be availed by those who require help for lifestyle modifications.

What is done?
Sessions are offered on a one-one, basis and usually structured and brief in nature. Based on an initial assessment and screening, further sessions are planned. Interventions include wide variety skill enhancing strategies that are based on the cognitive behavioural approaches, such relaxation, anger management, activity schedules, mood management, identification and modification of unhelpful thinking patterns.

Who runs the clinic?
A dedicated team from the Behavioural Medicine unit, Department of Clinical Psychology offers services at the clinic. The team brings with it several years of clinical and research experience and expertise in managing stress and lifestyle issues.

It includes consultants from the Behavioural Medicine Unit Team, along with a PhD scholar who is posted on rotation.

Other activities by the team
The team additional conducts workshops on stress management for working professionals, students as well as on handling emotions, relationships.

Right Choice Clinic

Nowadays, there are multiple lifestyle choices in front of us. Some of us make choices about the use of tobacco, alcohol, illicit drugs or prescription drugs or engage in gaming, gambling, racing, betting. These are choices we make in our life for some immediate excitement, relaxing, having fun, reducing our tension and stress. However, the same lifestyles can start to create problems to our health, family lives, friendships, studies and work. Many of these lifestyles can transform into addictions. In a confusing world, it is a good idea to have someone to talk to and seek professional advice about such options and the risks that go with it. The Right Choice Clinic gives you an opportunity to discuss the difficulties you may be having with substances or addictive behaviours, learn how to overcome them and learn how to make healthy and happy choices. AWAKE Clinic

Caters to: Women with Intimate Partner Violence

Purpose/Services Offered: The teams provide tailor made counseling and mental health interventions for men and women facing intimate partner violence through. The team also provides trauma care for the victims of violence. The team caters to the mental health need of women in distress. The team also provides support group services to women survivors of intimate partner violence. Community based interventions related to gender based violence prevention programme in schools are also conducted.

Aaraike – Psychosocial Care Clinic

Caters to: General Public

Purpose/Services Offered: Family Enrichment Program to strengthen the families to enhance quality of life, Pre-Marital Counseling for couple to prepare them to take the responsibilities of marriage and family life, Industrial Mental Health services for the employees to deal with the occupational stress and promotion of positive mental health, Martial Enrichment Services for the couple to enhance their marital quality and their wellbeing.

Child-Parent WellBeing Clinic (CPWB)

Caters to: Children and their parents

Purpose/Services Offered: The team helps the parents in understanding the problems of their children and create a conducive environment for the overall wellbeing of their children.

The team provides preventive and promotive mental health services for children with academic stress, slow learners and etc.

The team also caters to the needs of adolescents, help the families in understanding the adolescent’s adjustment problems and also help the adolescents to be focused about their future plans.

The team provides tailored made mental health interventions and counselling services for children and their families through one to one basis The team also provides effective parenting training for the parents to create good interpersonal relationship with in the family.

PEPSI: Program for Early Parent Support and Interventions for Wellbeing

Whom it caters to: Young parents – both father and mother, young pregnant mothers

Purpose/ what is done: The aim of this service is to enhance the overall psychosocial wellbeing of expecting mothers and young parents through the medium of educational and promotive programs. The programs are carried out along with primary health center health workers and anganwadi teachers. The programs include educational inputs on managing health during pregnancy, positive mental health, and stress management during pregnancy and child birth, preparing for infant care and so on. The program will ensure that the experience of parenthood will become more joyful and satisfying.
