Research
Scientific research is a key focus of the department, with special emphasis on neuroocology, neuroinfections, neuromuscular disorders and neurodegeneration and developing new diagnostic modalities in keeping with advances in emerging technology. Several of the faculty are involved in projects with interdepartmental and inter Institutional collaborations. The faculty of the department have been mentoring and guiding dissertation works of DM Neuropathology, DM Neurology, McH Neurosurgery, DM Neuroradiology, MPhil Neuroscience and PhD Clinical Neuroscience students in their fields of expertise. The research work by our faculty has received recognition both nationally and internationally and resulted in more than 500 publications in National and International peer reviewed journals in the last decade. The faculty have received several prestigious grants including from ICMR, DBT, DST, CSIR, NIH and Wellcome group. High standards of research has led to being awarded a Centre of Excellence by DBT in field of Neurooncology (collaboration with departments of Neurosurgery, Biostatistics , Neuroimaging and Interventional Radiology, NIMHANS and Indian Institute of Science,Bangalore)and neuroimmunology of schizophrenia (collaboration with departments of Psychiatry & Neurovirology, NIMHANS) and NIH for studies on neuroAIDS. From time to time, the technical staff offers training facilityto lab technicians from other institutes in histological processing of nervous tissues processing, large format sectioning and special stains in neurohistology.
