The Standing Finance Committee recommended the opening of the College of Nursing at NIMHANS on 16.02.2006.It was approved by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 24.02.2006. In 2006 August, B.Sc nursing programme with INC approval was started with the purpose of preparing baccalaureate entry-level practitioners who are able to assist individuals, families and communities to achieve desired health outcomes through the provision of nursing care and collaboration with other health care providers. The college meets the norms of the Indian Nursing Council as regards to teachers, infrastructure, equipment &facilities. The nursing students actively participate in both the curricular and co-curricular activities conducted by the institution thus aiming at academic excellence, professional competence & overall personality development. The dedicated faculty members of the College of Nursing are involved in training nursing students through quality education.
The College of nursing, NIMHANS building is spread out across an area of three acres with a built-in area of 24,000 sq.ft of land. It has eight lecture halls (4 big and 4 small)with adequate lighting and ventilation and four lecture halls have in-built LCD projectors. It has seven Laboratories viz., Nursing Foundation Lab, Anatomy & Physiology Lab, Computer Lab, Obstetrics & Gynaecology Lab, Community Health Nursing, Nutrition & Paediatric Lab. There is an auditorium with Plasma T.V. connection, LCD, Library & Multipurpose hall (Examination Hall), with eleven faculty rooms, including a room for clinical instructors, Principal’s Room, and Principal’s Office & Office for ministerial staff. There are adequate sanitary facilities & drinking water facility is situated in the ground floor. The College is selected as one of the sub -sub-recipients for the GFATM (Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria) project under INC & WHO.
