The 2nd Early Career Mental Health Professionals’ Workshop at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), a skill building activity for early career psychiatrists and other mental health professionals held under the auspices of the Dr Ramachandra N Moorthy Foundation for Mental Health and Neurological Sciences at NIMHANS on 9th-11th of January 2014.
The Faculty for the Workshop were Professor Norman Sartorius, President, Association for the Improvement of Mental Health Programmes, former Director of the Department of Mental Health, World Health Organization (WHO) and past President of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) & Professor Mohan K Isaac, Professor of Psychiatry (Population Mental Health), School of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, The University of Western Australia, Perth &Visiting Professor of Psychiatry, NIMHANS Bangalore.
Dr Santosh K Chaturvedi, Dr Pratima Murthy and Dr Arun Kandasamy were the Co-ordinators of the workshop. There were 17 participants selected through a nationwide selection process. There was a good spread of candidates representing almost all the regions of India. The workshop was inaugurated by the Director/Vice Chancellor Professor P Satish Chandra, in the presence of the Registrar Prof V Ravi, and the Deans. Dr Ramachandra N Moorthy graced the occasion with his presence and made inspirational remarks. The Workshop focussed on leadership, communication, presentation, research skills, and work life balance. The activities were interactive with role plays, feedbacks and group activities. The workshop contents were well received and highly appreciated. The feedbacks reiterated the need for continuing such activities in future.
