Commissioned by MOHFW, NIMHANS undertook a National Mental Health Survey (NMHS) for estimating prevalence of different prioritized mental disorders and examined treatment gap, assessed service utilization, disability and socio-economic impact along with assessing resources and systems for mental health service delivery across 12 states of India in 6 different regions during 2015 – 16.
The summary report of the NMHS was released in New Delhi by Smt. Anupriya Patel and Sri. Faggan Singh Kulaste, Hon Minister’s for State on 10th October 2016 as part of World Mental Health Day 2016 celebrations. The two comprehensive and detailed reports of NMHS entitled “Prevalence, Pattern and Outcomes” and “Mental Health Systems” was released during the 21st Convocation of NIMHANS in Bengaluru on 27th Dec 2016. Shri. Jagat Prakash Nadda, Honorable Minister for Health and Family Welfare released the reports in the august presence of Shri Ananth Kumar, Honourable Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, Dr Kiran kumar A S, Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, ISRO, Dr Sharan Prakash Patil, Honourable Minister for Medical Education, Government of Karnataka, Shri P C Mohan, Honourable Member of Parliament and Shri C K Mishra, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
