Physiotherapists are the health care professionals who diagnose and treat the individuals of all ages, from just born to the elder, who have medical problems or any other health-related conditions that limit their abilities in the daily activities. Physiotherapists examine each individual and develop a unique plan using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. In addition, they play an important role in the prevention of the loss of mobility, function and the disorders. Physiotherapy is a dynamic profession with an established theoretical and scientific base and widespread clinical applications in the restoration, maintenance, and promotion of optimal physical function. As essential participants in the health care delivery system, Physiotherapists assume leadership roles in rehabilitation in prevention, health maintenance, and programs that promote health, wellness, and fitness, and in professional and community organizations.
Physiotherapy in NIMHANS
Physiotherapy is one of the oldest departments in NIMHANS serving from the past five decades. Physiotherapy in NIMHANS is a central facility which caters the need of patients from different specialties of this esteemed institute. Physiotherapists play pivotal role in Neurology, Neurosurgery, psychiatry, Child & Adolescent psychiatry, and Neurological rehabilitation from intensive care to the tertiary level. The center offers informal teaching program on physiotherapy and hands-on clinical training to students (UG&PG) posted from various colleges of India and abroad and also students of NIMHANS (BSc Nursing). They are actively participating and collaborating with various specialty services like Geriatric clinic, Neuromuscular disorders clinic etc. Physiotherapists are actively involved not only in patient care but also in research and academic activities. They are continuously updating themselves by conducting, attending and presenting at national and International conferences. They are also publishing their scientific papers in indexed journals. Most of them are also invited speakers in most of the national conferences and forums and holding key posts in their professional bodies.

Physiotherapy Services
Physiotherapy center runs outpatient and inpatient services. The outpatient service has adult and pediatric OPD for both new and follow-up cases. Physiotherapists offer services to special clinics like the Neuromuscular clinic, Geriatric clinic etc. The center has advanced facilities such as Surface EMG Biofeedback, Balance and Gait lab etc.
