NIMHANS Health Scheme (NHS)

NIMHANS Health Scheme (NHS) is a contributory health scheme which provides comprehensive medical facilities to the employees of the Institute and their dependent family members. Medical facilities, under the scheme, are provided to the beneficiaries in the pattern of Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). NHS cards are issued to all employees and pensioners which entitle them for free treatment at NIMHANS Health Centre (NHC) and treatment at Government Hospitals or referral hospitals in Bengaluru. Specialist consultation is also available from visiting Honorary Consultants in Neuro Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, ENT, Endocrinology, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology specialties.

Some private hospitals and diagnostic centres have been empanelled under the scheme where beneficiaries can get the treatment based on the referral from Medical Officer, NHC. These hospitals or diagnostic centres provide treatment or diagnostic facility to the beneficiaries at CGHS approved rates. The reimbursement of expenditure incurred in private empanelled hospital will be limited to the maximum of CGHS or NHS rates. However, the expenditure incurred in Government Hospitals will be reimbursed as per actual.

A cashless service has also been introduced for in-patient treatment at the empanelled hospitals. Under this scheme empanelled hospitals will not insist on payment from the beneficiary. They will send the bill to the authorised Bill Clearing Agency who, after scrutinising the bill, will authorise NIMHANS to release payment to the hospital concerned.
