Injury Epidemiology

The “World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion” was established in the Department of Epidemiology with the aim of understanding injury burden and patterns in populations and facilitating development of intervention programmes.


The centre supports, facilitates and undertakes public health activities in injury prevention and control through a multi-disciplinary appproach based on data and evidence. The focus of work has been on Road Traffic Injuries (RTIs), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBIs), suicides, and violence. Activities of the centre include applied research projects, capacity strengthening and building human resources, development and implementation of interventions, facilitating appropriate policies and advocacy initiatives.
Activities are undertaken in collaboration with associated departments and centres, government departments and international agencies at local, national and international levels. For details and regular updates, please visit WHO Collaborating Centre.
