23rd Convocation of NIMHANS
The 23rd Convocation of National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru was held on 19th January 2019.
Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Minister for Home Affairs, Government of India graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation Address. Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, Hon’ble Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Government of India and President, NIMHANS presided over the ceremony.
The Chief Guest, in his convocation address, urged NIMHANS to facilitate a nationwide programme to prevent suicides and to undertake systematic interventions than can help the country’s internal security forces de-stress and handle stressful situations better. In this context, he lauded a similar initiative taken up by NIMHANS in association with the Tamil Nadu Police Department for promoting the wellness of five lakh police personnel and their families.
Delivering the presidential address, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda exuded confidence that NIMHANS would play a key role in responding to the challenges of mental health care. To achieve this, he said, NIMHANS will have to nurture similar institutions regionally and in other parts of the country if required.
A total of 192 students were awarded various degrees (post-graduate degrees, doctoral and post-doctoral degrees, diplomas and fellowships) on successful completion of their academic programmes at the convocation. Eleven students were honoured with special awards for their exemplary performance and academic excellence.
