I was born on 4th May 1975 in Udupi District of Karnataka. After obtaining Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS; Ayurveda Acharya) from Government Ayurvedic Medical College Bengaluru (Bangalore University) in 1997, I completed Doctor of Medicine (Ayurveda Vachaspathi) in Kayachikitsa from Shree Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Ayurveda Medical College, Udupi (Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences) in March 2003 and worked on Diabetes Mellitus. I was the first Ayurveda post graduate to receive Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree from the prestigious, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bengaluru in the topic, “Evaluation of Heart Rate Variability to establish hridaya dushti (cardiovascular dysfunction) in patients of Vishada (Major Depression) and the effect of Ayurvedic therapies” in the Department of Neurophysiology in association with Dept. of Psychiatry in the year September 2008. My research contribution was duly recognized by the CCRAS and I was conferred with “Young Scientist Award for Clinical Research on 28th April 2018. I have published more than 40 research articles My research areas include Mental Health, Neurology, Metabolic Disorders, Geriatrics, Literary and Basic science. I have published systematic review published in lancet psychiatry as a second author, on traditional and complimentary systems of medicine (TCAM) as potential source of delivery of mental health in India and China. In my research endeavors attempts have been made to integrate concepts of Ayurveda and Modern Neuroscience by correlating Ayurveda concepts of Vishada vis-à-vis Depression. I have a good experience in the evaluation of Autonomic Functions and Heart Rate variability. I was instrumental in conducting study on evaluating the effect of Ayurvedic treatment in depression. During this study Vishada Rating Scale and Vata Rating Scale were developed to Further, I have as a PI found that Ayurvedic treatment with Vyoshadi guggulu and Haritaki Churna were safe and effective in reducing obesity. Similarly, Ashwagandha Churna and Pravala Pishti were safe and effective in ameliorating Osteoporosis/Osteopenia. As a co-investigator it was found that Chyavanaprasha was safe and improved Quality of life and exercise endurance in the elderly. In public health domain the health-related demography of tribals of South Karnataka was documented. I have contributed on Ayurveda concept of prakruti (body constitution) in development and standardization of prakruti questionnaire. Among other contributions are documentation of traditional community health practices among different communities for primary health care funded by Karnataka Jnana Ayoga, Govt. of Karnataka, contribution in editing and preparing hard copies of 21 Ayurveda/medical palm leaf manuscripts, preparation of comprehensive compendium of Ayurveda Dietetics, documentation of the traditional medicine practices of common dietary vegetables with antidiabetic properties, effect of Shodhana (Ayurvedic purification procedures) on poisonous drugs (like bhallataka and Jayapala) on physicochemical parameters. I was part of Govt. of India delegation to Germany from 9th to 12th Sep. 2016, to attend 18th International Ayurveda Symposium at Birstein, Germany and visit to Augusta Hospital, Hattingen, Germany to opine on the prospects of international cooperation between India and Germany in respect of Ayurveda education and treatment. I am also recipient IBRO-FAONS Travel grant award to attend the 4th congress of Federation of Asia Oceanian Neuroscience Societies (FAONS) held at Hong Kong China during 30th November to 2nd December 2006 and WFSBP travel grant award to attend 2nd International Congress of Biological Psychiatry, 17-21 April 2007 organized by World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry, at Santiago Chile, South America. Further, I have been instrumental in procuring 4 acres 11 guntas of land from Revenue Authorities of Govt. of Karnataka, for CCRAS for establishment of RARIMD in Bengaluru, planning and execution of building Ayurveda Hospital and Research laboratories. I joined Department of Integrative Medicine, NIMHANS in August 2019 and have contributed immensely in establishment of IMD, including infrastructure, clinical services, academics, approval of PG courses in integrative Medicine and writing integrative research proposals for funding. On the occasion during COVID-19 have submitted clinical and invitro research proposals of Ayurveda herbs in COVID-19 patients to Ministry of AYUSH (under review) have been instrumental in procurement of preventive AYUSH formulation from Govt. of Karnataka NIMHANS, constitution of Human ethics committee in AYUSH and Integrative Medicine and Drug purchase committee. Administratively, I have coordinated the planning and execution of infrastructural facilities for a well-equipped 30 bedded Ayurveda Hospital, setting up of panchakarma facility, starting of outpatient department and recruitment of staff and residents. I am also a member of Board of Studies of Integrative Health in Sri. Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher education, Kolar and member of syllabus drafting subcommittee of Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) Govt. of India, New Delhi. I am recipient of Young Scientist Award for Clinical Research by CCRAS. I am keen to efficiently integrate Ayurveda concepts with Modern Neuropsychiatry. I have 50 publications in national and international Journals with Google Scholar: Citations: 469; h index: 7; i10 index: 7 Research Gate: RG Score: 18.91; h index: 6 Total Impact factor: 71.33, Average impact factor: 3.57. I have and received 12 crore worth research grants from Govt. of India
