Description

Physiotherapist center in collaboration with geriatric service of psychiatry has involved in community outreach programs to promote healthy living among the community living elders. It involves creating awareness and advice regarding treatment and prevention of common age-related ailments such as arthritis, neck, back pain and falls etc. As part of these activities, the following activities have taken place. The physiotherapy team evaluated and advised exercises to address the neuromuscular complaints such as pain in the neck, back, and extremities. Over 100 people availed the consultation and treatment advice. Special emphasis was made on falls and importance of aerobic exercises to improve cardiovascular health and subsequently to prevent brain disorders such as stroke and dementia.

Description

Sankara Eye hospital had organized a Senior Citizen Mela on the 16th and 17th of March 2018.Geriatric Clinic run by NIMHANS psychiatry department with Physiotherapy Centre participated in the mela. Physiotherapist had the opportunity to advise and guide the needy patients. Patients had taken physiotherapy services with respect to knee pain, Balance issues, and movement disorder. Some of them got referred to NIMHANS for further evaluation and treatment.

Description

The world elderly day was celebrated on 5/10/17 at the NIMHANS OPD premise by the physiotherapy center. The program was inaugurated by Head of physiotherapy services, Dr.Bhadrinarayan, Medical superintendent. During the occasion, patient information brochures on elderly care were released. Dr. Chandra Sekar RMO and other faculty and staff members graced the occasion. More than fifty people visited the session and found beneficial about the information provided on a falls prevention exercise program.

Description

World stroke day was organized in NIMHANS on 28/10/17.The whole program was organized by physiotherapy center of NIMHANS. It was supported by Dr. Girish Kulkarni, additional Prof of Neurology, Department of nursing, department of PSW and department of neuropathology.

The program was inaugurated by the director, NIMHANS Prof.B.N Gangadhar. The Medical superintendent Dr.Badrinarayan, RMO Dr.Chandarasekar, Dr.Girish Kulkarni, additional  Prof of neurology, Dr.Anitha Mahdevan from the department of neuropathology. During this occasion release of educational leaflets on stroke and its prevention in English, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Bengali languages was done.Poster display on stroke identification and prevention was made by physiotherapists and nurses.  Department of Neuropathology displayed Brain specimens from Brain Bank and educated the public. Stroke risk was assessed by Physiotherapists and neurologists using WSO endorsed Stroke Risko meter mobile app, followed by one to one education using the educational leaflets. Around 300 people with many staff and students visited the campaign venue and around 150 participants undergone a risk assessment.

Description

Physiotherapy centre has actively participated in the science day event organized in NIMHANS. In the event ,Patient education materials in the form of posters and brochures on various topic including “back pain” ,”neck pain”, “falls prevention” in the elderly, importance of aerobic exercise for cardiovascular system and the information on physiotherapy services offered in NIMHANS were displayed. The fun activity test like the hand coordination (audio feedback) which was developed in physiotherapy and core muscle test was the main attraction for the public. The winners of the hand coordination test were rewarded with prizes. It was a grand success as physiotherapy centre was the main attraction for the audience. The young students were excited to know about physiotherapy profession and showed interest in studying physiotherapy for their professional carrier. The importance of exercise for life was emphasized in the public talk given by the senior physiotherapist Mr. V. Selva Ganapathy.

Description

As per the Government of INDIA initiative, we organize Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at NIMHANS every Saturday afternoon from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Vehicles parking place in front of physiotherapy Centre the whole DPNR building, its terrace and the garden in front is cleaned and maintained.

Under the guidance of Dr.Nagaratna Dean,SVYASA, the team of 6 members from Arogyadhama; Dr Sandhya, Dean of life sciences / Coordinator Arogyadhama Dr.Umashankar (Section A in charge), Dr.Varsha (section C in charge), Dr.Rajaram (Physiotherapy incharge), Dr.Prashanth (Neuro Rehab), and Mr.Siddha Nagaraj (section C therapist) had visited the NIMHANS hospital on 15.03.2018 for the Guidance and planning of our future project on Neuro Rehabilitation And Psychiatry Rehabilitation.
