Patients who require detailed evaluation and observation are admitted and managed as per the admission protocol of each department of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.
Out patient services for non-emergency cases are run on all days except Sunday and general OPD holidays (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday) from morning 9.00 A.M. On an average about 150 new and old patients in all three specialities of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry patients are seen per day in these services.
Patients from overseas will be given outpatient treatment. However, they will only be permitted for inpatient treatment at NIMHANS if they have a MEDICAL VISA. Patients with other visas will not be admitted but treated on an outpatient basis.
The department caters to neurosurgical, neurological and psychiatric patients primarily for the patients from the state of Karnataka and neighboring districts of the adjoining states. About 5-10% of the inpatients are drawn from different parts of the country especially the northeast. It also provides quality emergency and trauma care. The casualty and emergency services are run 24 hours a day, (365x7) manned by junior, senior residents and a member of the faculty. The casualty block has 3 areas identified according to the emergency patient care requirement as priority I, II and III areas. Ten beds are available separately for observing patients who need short-term emergency admissions.
